Mixed-Media Artist
Lagos, Nigeria
Rasaki R. Ayokunmi(b. 1999) is a mixed-media artist based in Lagos, Nigeria. With a background in Theatre Arts from Lagos State University, Ayokunmi translates her foundation in storytelling into a visual language that explores the depths of human emotion and societal complexity. Her practice is deeply informed by the symbolism of the fingerprint, which she views as a map toward destiny. This unique signature serves as a check and balance for our actions and the ultimate accountability of our choices.
By centring this mark of individuality, Ayokunmi’s work navigates the tension between personal uniqueness and the dense, collective world. Her art explores the enduring human capacity for resilience and the relentless pursuit of purpose, inviting viewers to confront their own narratives through the lens of their own distinct identity.
Ayokunmi’s practice has gained international recognition, notably being shortlisted for the Visible Artist Award (sponsored by Audible UK), and longlisted for the Jackson Art Prize 2026. Within Nigeria, her work has been exhibited at esteemed venues, including SOTO Gallery, Ogirikan Art Gallery and Iwalewa Art Gallery, marking her as a rising voice in the contemporary African art scene.
